Management of innovations in education and sustainable learning environment in public universities in Rivers State, Nigeria

Abstract

This study examined the relationship between management of innovations in education and sustainable learning environment in public universities in Rivers State. The study had three objectives, with corresponding research questions and null hypotheses. It adopted correlational research design, with population which comprised 3,165 teaching staff. A sample size of 355 respondents were drawn for the study using Taro Yamane, while stratified sampling technique was used to select sample size for the study. The instrument was a questionnaire of two sets, titled: Management of Innovations in Education Assessment Scale (MIEAS) and Sustainable Learning Environment Assessment Scale (SLEAS). The instrument was validated and reliability coefficients of 0.82 and 0.87 were obtained for both instruments respectively using Cronbach Alpha reliability coefficient. The research questions were answered using Pearson Product Moment Correlation (PPMC) statistics, while the hypotheses were tested using z-ratio at 0.05 level of significance. Findings of the study revealed that, there is low and insignificant relationship between relationship between management of virtual reality, blended learning and sustainable learning environment in public universities in Rivers State, while there is high and significant relationship between management of artificial intelligence and sustainable learning environment in public universities in Rivers State. It was concluded that innovations in education if properly managed can enhance sustainable learning environment in public universities in Rivers State. Based on the findings and conclusion, it was recommended among others that, university management should establish a Virtual Reality (VR) steering committee that comprise of faculty members, administrators, and IT staff to oversee VR initiatives, ensure alignment with university goals, and facilitate communication among stakeholders.
