F Chukwudi

Abstract

The focus of the paper is on the relationships between psychopathy and rape behaviour. Keffi prisons consist of 98 inmates, 88 male and 20 female, and they were used as participants of the study. Data from the Nigerian prison service for the period of 2002 to 2009 were collected at the Keffi prison correlation and linear multiple aggression statistical analysis were used to test the hypothesis state for the study. The problem is that mental disorders which is biological induces lack of conscience and empathy in an individual, making an individual to violate social norms and expectations with out guilt or remorse which result to sexual behaviour assault. Another problem is the environmental factors which include depression, post traumatic stress anxiety, unemployment etc contribute to
the increase in rape behaviour. Biologically some rapists inherited some sexual behavioural elements from their parents that actually arouse them sexually and as such indulges in sexual assault is a problem. The sample size of the study is 98 the sampling method used is survey where psychopathic Deviant scale instrument and eight items questionnaire were used. A pilot study, was conducted with the instrument using eight participants randomly drawn from Lafia prison on statistical analysis, using SPSS 16.0 Version the result showed that out of the 8 items only 7
items measures up to a correlation coefficient of 8 as indicated by (Aiken, 1987, Normally 1970). There were ninety eight (98) participant and administration of questionnaire were made with the assistance of controller general Keffi prison. It lasted for two hours in the morning and two hours, in the evening. The administration was in the phase for convenience and control purpose. Data was obtained for the year 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 009. The hypotheses are that, one there will be a statistical significant relationship between environmental influence and rape behaviour, two, there will be a statistical relationship between biological influence and rape behaviour. They were all tested and proved acceptable but environmental factors contribute more than the
biological fact. The results obtained from the analysis showed that the calculated value of 34.8 is greater than the degree of freedom >.05 in Biological factor while in environmental factor the calculated value of 26.12 is greater than the degree of freedom>.05.
