Les entreprises de presse face à l’épreuve de la justice, entre médiatisation et instrumentalisation : le cas de l’affaire Ousmane Sonko au Sénégal Press companies facing the test of justice, between media coverage and manipulation: The case of the Ousmane Sonko affair in Senegal
Abstract
This article aims to analyze the role played by the press in the Ousmane Sonko case. To this end, we studied a corpus of newspaper front pages to understand how this case was covered by the media. The objective is to examine to what extent the media's dramatization of the legal proceedings can hinder the genuine "publicizing" of this legal case. The categorization of information highlighted by newspapers allows us to identify, on the one hand, the strategies of sensationalism that rely on dramatization, and on the other hand, the informative strategies that pursue educational aims. This distinction sheds light on the tension between media appeal and informative function, revealing the communication challenges at the heart of the journalistic treatment of the case.
