Evaluation of the growth performance of broiler birds fed with millet and sorghum supplemented feed

Abstract

The study aimed at assessing the growth performance of Broilers Birds fed with grains of Millet and Sorghum used as a compounded feed in various compositions. The diet was prepared at various concentrations (25%, 50% and 75%). The birds were divided in to four groups and fed with the prepared experimental diets. Proximate analysis of the prepared experimental diet was conducted. Weight (Kg) and Height(cm) of the broiler birds were taken weekly and recorded. The result obtained showed that, in week one the T1 (25%) had the highest weight (1.84±0.11) followed by T3 (75%) (1.72±0.02) and the least weight were recorded in T2 (50%) (1.69±0.06). At week 2, the highest weight was recorded in the control treatment (4.4±0.21), followed by T2 (50%) (1.82±0.01) and the least was T1 (25%)
(1.49±0.15). At the third (3) week of height measurement, the T3 (75%) had the highest height value (36.87±2.02) followed by T1 (25% Millet and Sorghum) (32.28±0.52) and the least value was recorded at the control diet (31.72±0.05). The proximate content of the diet varies based on the percentage of the test ingredients. Diet II, Crude protein, (31.65%), Crude fiber, (27.82%), Moisture content, (50.50%), Ash content, (32.86%). Diet III, Crude protein, (40.08%), Crude fiber (41.10%), Moisture content (25.21%), Ash content, (31.73%). Diets IV, Crude protein, (28.27%), Crude fiber, (31.08%), Moisture content (24.29%), Ash content (35.41%). The study showed that, the feed supplemented with millet and sorghum has proven to be a good source of meal for the poultry birds. Therefore, it could serve as an alternative supplement of bird diets.
