Users Adaptation to Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Resources in Federal University of Technology, Owerri Library

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to find out the level of adaptation of ICT resources by the users of thelibrary. It investigated the type of ICT resources frequently used, specific area it is applied and the satisfaction level of users. The study adopted descriptive survey method. Questionnaire was used to collect data for this study. A combination of frequency, simple percentage, bar chart and Chi – Square was used for the analysis. The study revealed the following; the Internet, computers, and photocopiers are the ICT resources that are frequently used. They use ICT resources for both academic and personal purposes. They are not satisfied with ICT resources in FUTO.Users are not adequately adapted.Based on the findings, it is concluded that there is poor level of adaptation to ICT resources and the following recommendations are therefore suggested: There should be proper awareness of the resources/services available in the library through bill boards, bulletins, SDI and current awareness services. Users should endeavour to acquire skills in the use of electronic devices for effective utilization of ICT resources in FUTO library. There is the need for the improvement of ICT resources in FUTO Library to meet the needs and satisfaction of users. There is the need for the library to redefine its methods of strategic information dissemination so as to acquaint users of the resources available in the library
