Lecturers’ perception on curriculum and Students’ Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) in library and information science departments in Nigerian universities

Abstract

The study was undertaken to determine the adequacy of LIS curriculum and effectiveness of the Students’ Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) in departments of Library and Information Science in Nigerian universities. Survey was the research design and the rating scale was the instrument for data collection. All the lecturers in the LIS departments in seventeen universities who responded provided the data which were analyzed using the mean. It was found that the curricula of the LIS schools were adequate SIWES in these departments was effective. The study recommended a committee of NLA to harmonize curricula and develop a standard of practice be used in the departments for SIWES.
