Information Communication Technology Usage among Rural Women: A Case Stud y of Ndokwa Area of Delta State

Abstract

The study investigated the Usage of Information Communication Technolog y among the rural women in Ndokwa area of Delta State Nigeria. The population of the study was selected from rural women social meeting groups ; from 9 villages in the three Local Government Areas that made up Ndokwa Area. 9 social groups were selected ; one from each village. Cluster random sampling technique through balloting was used to select the villages and social groups. The participatory research approach w as adopted for the study . Questionnaire, interview and personal observation were the instruments used for data collection. 230 copies of questionnaires were distributed out of which, 205 were found usable. Simple percentage was used to analyze the data. The results revealed that the information communication technologies used by some women are television and GSM handsets but majority of them have no ICTs, they acquire information mostly through town criers, marketplaces and religious gatherings . Recommendations were based on the research findings
