Students’ perceptions on teacher - centred methods in teaching classification in library schools: The case of Benue State University, Makurdi, Nigeria

Abstract

This research was the study on students’ perception on teacher -centered methods in teaching classification in library schools: the case of Benue State University, Makurdi. The instrument used for this study was questionnaire. Mean and standard deviation were used in data analysis. The z -test was used to test the hypothesis formulated. The findings were also highlighted in the study. The students revealed in their responses that demonstration/practical met hod of teaching was preferred to the
lecture method in classification because the subject is practically oriented subject that require s the teaching of knowledge and skills to enable the individual carryout such skills through demonstration/practical. The study suggested among others that teachers should be given in service
training on how to improve on demonstration/practical method to enable them teach. Lecturers handling the classification causes should also be sponsored to attend Nigeria Library Associ ation (NLA)annual classification conference .
