Perception of individuals on COVID-19 pandemic in Warri Metropolis, Delta State, Nigeria: implications for counselling

Abstract

This study examined perception of Individuals on COVID-19 pandemic in Warri Metropolis, of Delta State. As a descriptive study, the purposive random sampling technique, was used to select 1,200 respondents for the study. Three research questions and one hypothesis were raised for this study. The descriptive statistics and Pearson Product Moment were used to answer the research questions and hypothesis at 0.05 level of significance. It was found that individuals in Warri Metropolis are aware of the existence of COVID 19 but have negative perception towards it as a result of the approach government and agencies saddled with the responsibilities are handling the issue of COVID 19. Based on these findings, recommendations were made urging the government to be sincere in handling the affairs of COVID-19; and although the government and other agencies are not sincere in handling the affairs relating to the pandemic, it did not erase the presence and dangers of COVID 19, as such individuals should adopt proper preventive measures and observe all the prescribed protocols.
