Abstract

The idea of Serious Games dates to about 1970. If off-the-shelf PC-based aviation games and the vast library of related civilian developed databases and models can be leveraged for serious training use, then existing military training paradigms from  familiarization training to mission rehearsal might be disrupted and provide the financial, safety, quality, and time benefits for even less cost. This research  investigates the use of digital game based learning approach for military training as a contribution to the fact that a PC-based, first person shooter game contributes to  military training and learning using inexpensive interface configurations. Of a great significance in this project is that the developed game will complement the efforts of the Military in combating the attack of an evil sect nicknamed “Bokko Haram” in Nigeria by sensitizing players on the need to wipe them out and defend themselves against their attack. The Object oriented analysis and design methodology is used to model and design a 2D single player first-person shooter game interface. Analysis, development methods and development processes carried out for creating a working product of the game are provided while information about the project and the lessons learned from experiences that have been gained during the project period are discussed.
