Analysis Of The University Of Lagos Organizational Selfreliance And Survival Scheme

L Nwinkina

Abstract

The study was an environmental analysis of the University of Lagos to determine the most preferred solution to the most highly visible problems in managing programmes for self reliance and survival, as perceived by the corporate managers of the institutions; and to determine how the top corporate managers of the institutions rank certain identified threats to, and opportunities for managing toward self-reliance and survival of the institution. It was found that there are many clear problems (weaknesses) but also many strong solutions (strengths). Many serious threats, but also many serious opportunities for managing the institutions toward self-reliance and survival. The university should be involved in revenue generating projects, allocate sufficient funds and quality personnel resources to these. It should create new innovative ways to recognise and reward individuals for their efforts. The workforce should represent a tremendous wealth of knowledge and opportunity to improve the way it does business, increase profit, reduce costs and make employees as if they are a part of a team - a winning team.

Key words: organizational self-reliance, survival scheme
