Abstract

The bird fauna was censsus avifauna in Abomey - Calavi city, second high Beninese city according its population. Birds are made in fifty 150 m-radius circular plots installed along city. 87 species belonging to 30 families were recorded. Cenus was made in various facies areas: natural woody vegetation, highly anthropogenic areas, plantations, fields, fallow, moist areas etc. The aim is to explain birds distribution in the city by ecological parameters. We used a simple point sampling avifauna survey method (EPS) proceeded by birds songs memorizing. Birds are made in fifty 150 m-radius circular plots installed along city. 87 species belonging to 30 families were recorded. The characterization of the bird species ecological groups with Detrended Correspondence Analysis (DCA) presented 5 groups of avifauna:
- group 1 was an association of ubiquity birds in all e types areas of city ;
- group 2 was constituted by commensally and ubiquity birds in opened areas, fallows and highly anthropogenic areas in city;
- group 3 was made by species in Wheatland (lagoon banks, marsh or coastal plain and the typical species of the interstitial water fringes);
- group 4 was represented by species of natural woody vegetation, plantations, field and fallows;
- group 5 represented of undergrowth and savanical species found downtown.
