The Department of Medical Laboratory Science of Bayero University, Kano was established by the Senate of Bayero University, Kano in 2008/2009 academic session, with 26 pioneer students. Since then the Department has seen appreciable transformation in most of the areas with over 39 staff (both academic and non academic) spread across the five academic units of the Department. The urge to mount the postgraduate programme is a response to the current shortage of professionals at postgraduate level nationwide coupled with the fact that the field is still relatively new. While the university management is making concerted effort to address the issue of manpower in the short-term by massive recruitments, the Department with active encouragement from the university management and relevant stakeholders, sought to complement this effort on the long-term. Hence the overwhelming necessity to mount the postgraduate programmes in Medical Laboratory Science using the resources at the disposal of the College of Health Sciences. The PG programme is tailored in line with the NUC BMAS of 2011. The Department plans to make maximum use of the senior staff on visiting, in addition to those on post/sabbatical, to train students, especially in areas of acute demand.
