Assessment of the Adoption of Climate-Smart Agricultural Practices for Climate Change Mitigation Among Smallholder Farmers in Anambra State, Nigeria

Abstract

This study was conducted in Anambra State, Nigeria. The review surveyed the reception of climate-smart agricultural (CSA) practices to address environmental change in the review region. A multi-stage examination method was utilized to choose 180 respondents. Information was gathered through essential sources with the guidance of an organized poll. The investigation of the gathered information was conducted using engaging insights and the Tobit regression model. The findings showed that the major CSA practices adopted by the farmers were reduced tillage to minimize water loss (83.3%), crop rotation (66.7%), cultivation of drought and pest-resistant crop varieties (66.1%), inter-cropping (60%), improved drainage (56.7%), incorporation of manure into soil (52.2%)and adjusting planting schedules (46.1%) to enhance resilience.  The consequence of the concentrate moreover indicated high level of adoption of the CSA practices among which were crop rotation (mean=3.93), use of short-duration cultivars (mean=3.72), use of flood, drought, and saline resistant crop varieties (X̅=3.71), upgrading establishing plans, for example, planting dates (X̅=3.52) and utilization of incorporated frameworks which includes domesticated animals as well as hydroponics to further develop flexibility (X̅=3.45). The result of Tobit regression analysis showed that marital status, education, farm income, extension visits, and experience emphatically and altogether impacted the reception of CSA advancements. Accordingly, advancing these practices can play an urgent part in moderating environmental change influence while supporting agrarian efficiency and supportability of food security in Anambra State. The review suggests that further promotion of these adaptive technologies would act as catalysts for efficient and sustainable farming that will enhance food production to assuage the hunger that has besieged the country.
