Assessment of the Impact of Training on Staff Performance in Public Institutions in Tanzania
Abstract
This study examined the impact of employee training on staff performance in public institutions in Tanzania, focusing on Temeke Municipal Council. Employee training is considered a vital human resource development strategy for enhancing organizational efficiency, service delivery, and employee satisfaction. Despite the importance of training, limited studies have been conducted to measure its direct influence on employee performance in Tanzanian public institutions. This study adopted a mixed-methods research design, targeting 50 sample size of respondents selected through purposive sampling. Data was collected using interviews and analyzed through descriptive statistics and thematic analysis. The findings revealed that training programs had a significant positive impact on staff performance. About 70 of respondents reported improved efficiency, error rates reduced by 20%, and 90% of employees expressed higher job satisfaction. Service delivery also improved, with customer satisfaction increasing by 15%. Challenges identified included limited training budgets, inadequate monitoring, and a lack of job-specific training content. The study concludes that effective training is critical in enhancing employee performance but requires management support, alignment with institutional goals, and regular evaluations.
