Peer Review

1.  General Guidelines
a.   All communication by the Editorial Team shall be via designated emails: In all dealings relating to the processing of manuscripts, all editorial team members must use the email addresses designated solely for the Journal (Research Journal of Health Sciences).
b.   Copies of communication through the Journal editorial office in hard copies must be kept in the Journal editorial office in designated files.
c.   All editorial activities must be completed within stipulated time periods.

2.  Initial Assessment (maximum of 7 days)
a. Editor       receives       all       submitted       manuscripts       through editor.rjhs@uniosun.edu.ng
b.   If submitted manuscript is NOT within the scope of the journal, author(s) are informed immediately.
c.   If submitted manuscript is within the scope of the Research Journal of Health Sciences, the Editor requests the Desk Editor to:
i.   Assign a manuscript number
ii.  Assess for plagiarism
iii.   Assess manuscripts for compliance with author(s) guidelines
iv.   Suggest three  (3) reviewers in the relevant field  (Full names, designation, contact details)
d.  Desk Editor sends out all manuscripts (through deskeditor.rjhs@uniosun.edu.ng) to vetted (or approved) reviewers after receiving editorial endorsement from the Journal Editor through editor.rjhs@uniosun.edu.ng

3.  Stage B Completion of peer-review process. (Maximum of 3 - 6) weeks
a.  Desk Editor sends all reviewers comments in a zipped file, as well as the manuscript to the Editor, who in turn, will review the comments for fairness, scientific basis and reach a decision with the Desk Editor. Decisions must be very firm: either ACCEPT (with or without corrections) or REJECT (reason/s must always be provided to author(s), and must have a strong scientific basis).
b.   Editor immediately communicates editorial decision to author(s) in case of Rejection.
c.   Desk Editor will proceed to send the manuscript to the Journal Statistician in case of acceptance, with corrections (where applicable).
d. After    receiving    the    Journal    Statistician’s    report, the Desk Editor submits same to the Editor, who reviews the report and communicates appropriate corrections to be made, to the author(s).
e.   Author(s) will submit corrected manuscript to the Editor, who will in turn liaise directly with reviewers to ensure total (full) acceptance.
f.    Finally, Desk Editor will inform the author(s) of ACCEPTANCE OF THE PAPER AND THAT THE PAPER WILL APPEAR IN A SUITABLE EDITION OF THE JOURNAL.

4.  Stage C (Journal Preparatory phase). Maximum of 2 weeks.
All comments or corrections must be made through tracked changes review.
a.   Desk Editor shall:
i.   Request the corresponding author to pay the Journal publication fee of ($150) or its equivalent.
ii.  Forward the corrected manuscript, SIMULTANEOUSLY, to the:
· Language Editor (languageeditor.RJHS@uniosun.edu.ng)
· Formatting Editor (formattingeditor.RJHS@uniosun.edu.ng)
· Reference Editor (referenceeditor.RJHS@uniosun.edu.ng)
· Desk Editor shall carry out further checks on plagiarism

b. Desk Editor shall then send the processed manuscript, with the tracked comments to the Editor, who reviews the submission, before the Desk Editor sends the manuscript to the corresponding author for necessary corrections.

5.  Stage D (Review by Editorial Adviser). Maximum of 10days.
Editor  shall  send  the  corrected  manuscript  received  from  the  author(s)  to  at least two Editorial Advisers for comments.

6.  Stage E (Review by Editor-in Chief). Maximum of 10days.
Editor shall send the final corrected manuscript received from the Editorial Adviser to the Editor-in Chief for approval to publish.

7.  Stage F (Publication Preparation)
Editor sends the approved manuscript to the Desk Editor, who provides a galley proof, as well as ensures that appropriate payments have been made (including those for coloured figures).

8.  Stage G (Journal layout)
Desk Editor will provide the Journal layout team with all accepted manuscripts in preparation for publication. The Journal layout team shall provide PDF versions.

Guidelines for making a Verdict
Acceptance without revisions - Completely flawless
Acceptance with minor revisions - Typographical errors, changes in nomenclature, addition of footnotes to tables and figures, re-arrangement of components of the text.
Acceptance with major revisions - Need for thorough copy-editing for spellings and grammar, data re-analysis, need for more tables or graphical expressions, need for more references or reduction of references, more discussion points, extensive reduction or expansion of the text.

Focus and Scope

The Research Journal of Health Sciences is dedicated to promoting high quality research work in the field of health and related biological sciences. It aligns with the mission of the Osun State University, which is “to create a unique institution, committed to the pursuit of academic innovation, skills-based training and a tradition of excellence in teaching, research and community service”. The Journal acts as a medium of improving the quality of health care and medical education particularly in the context of developing countries with limited resources.

The Research Journal of Health Sciences aim to make a substantial contribution towards providing high quality publications in health sciences and related biological sciences. It publishes manuscripts from basic and clinical sciences that have not been submitted for publication/or under consideration for publication elsewhere. The Journal ensures a rigorous review process.
