Konkomba land: A symbolic example of the problematic relationship with colonial schooling in Togo (1930s–1960s) Pays konkomba, un exemple emblématique de la fréquentation problématique de l’école coloniale au Togo (années 1930-1960)
Abstract
After the conquest and with the set up of the German and French administrative structures, the colonizers are going to embody the domination, the coercion and arbitrariness. Besides the operations of military conquest and pacification of the country konkomba, notably the one led by von Massow, several of other economic and cultural reasons participated in to return this recalcitrant people in the school. Before the distrust and the reticence of the Konkomba, the administration didn't hesitate to make use of the force. But the coercive recruitments of pupils were revealed inefficient and influenced little on the school company. This article analyzes the problematic school company in country konkomba then described the strategies of the French administration to impose the school to the Konkomba of the years 1930 to 1960.
Après la conquête et avec la mise en place des structures administratives allemandes et françaises, les colonisateurs vont incarner la domination, la coercition et l’arbitraire. Outre les opérations de conquête militaire et de pacification du pays konkomba, notamment celle menée par von Massow, plusieurs d’autres raisons économiques et culturelles ont participé à rendre ce peuple réfractaire à l’école. Face à la méfiance et la réticence des Konkomba, l’administration n’hésita pas à faire usage de la force. Mais les recrutements coercitifs d’élèves se sont révélés inefficaces et ont peu influé sur la fréquentation scolaire. Cet article analyse la problématique fréquentation scolaire en pays konkomba puis décrit les stratégies de l’administration française pour imposer l’école aux Konkomba des années 1930 à 1960.
