Peer Review

The ABSUMSAJ is a peer reviewed journal funded by the college of medicine and donors. The ABSUMSAJ editorial board has an advisory board which consists of 5 consulting editors and a student representative, 20 editorial advisers, within and outside Nigeria. These editorial advisers are specialists in different medical and health related fields. Scientific papers which are submitted for publication without page fee are sorted out according to their headings and contents and sent to specialists drawn from universities and research institutions or people who have acquired experience in general practice (these are the Editorial advisers) for editing,suggestions and comments. This is done blindly as the author(s)' name(s), qualifications and academic affiliations are deleted. This allows for an unbiased assessement and scrutiny. The advisers then return these papers with their suggestions and advice which are typed by the board and sent to the authors to make appropriate correction as a condition for publishing the papers. Note that a single paper is sent to at least 2 advisers.Each of the articles must have a mean score of 75%, where otherwise, this is not published. Following the correction, papers are then selected for publication and the author notified of this. Accepted but not published papers are left for inclusion in the next volume of the journal and authors duly informed. Controversial articles are sent to many reviewers who are not even members of the advisory board, especially professors whose works in such areas are widely acknowledged. Their suggestions are also conveyed to the authors. In all, the board maintains a high level of secrecy between the reviewers and the authors. Also the spread of the advisers within the entire federation and the globe decreases any likely chance of communication between the reviewers and the authors.
