The Tropical Journal of Health Sciences accords special interest and high priority to: original work; research and training innovations and clinical observations.

Articles submitted to the THJS should not be under consideration for publication by another journal nor should such an article be previously published elsewhere except as a conference abstract. Contributions may be made as original research papers, short communications, case report, solicited review articles, commentary, correspondence and book reviews offered exclusively to the journal. To accelerate publication of any contributions, editorial instructions and policies should be strictly followed when submitting manuscripts for consideration.

Manuscripts should be typed on A4 size paper lay out in clear and concise English. Expression of language should be simple. Local vernaculars may be employed only when their use is unavoidable. Articles should be typed on one side of paper only with double spacing and ample margins.  Page number should be done in a consecutive manner. Manuscripts, figures and tables should be submitted in three copies (one original and two clear photocopies) plus an electronic copy in word format in flash drive, CD or by e-mail to: The Editor-in-Chief, The Tropical Journal of Health Sciences, c/o Provost’s Office, College of Health Sciences, University of Ilorin, P.M.B. 1515, Ilorin, Nigeria, E-mail: drokesina@yahoo.com  or editor.tjhs@gmail.com . Manuscripts should be presented in the following order and all pages numbered consecutively (Title Page, Abstract Page, Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion, Acknowledgement, References starting on a separate page and each table with title and each figure with Legend on seperate page).

Abstract should not be more than 300 words. Internationally acceptable nomenclature and units of scientific measurement, Systeme International (S.I) should be used consistently. The 24 hour system should indicate time e.g 0900H. No sentence should begin with Arabic numerals and abstract should be on a seperate  page. .

Authors are responsible for the accuracy of all references in the text and the list at the end of the paper. Only indispensable references should be used. Citation in the text should appear as consecutive numbers in superscript. All the cited references should be listed serially at the end of the paper, using the format in Index Medicus in accordance with the “Vancouver Convention” style of referencing. List of references to articles in  journals should contain (i) Name(s) and initial(s) of author(s) (ii) Full title of article (iii) Name of the journal (iv) Year of publication (v) Volume number (vi) First and last pages. Format of this journal must be strictly adhered to in preparation of manuscripts. Authors should ensure accuracy of spellings and other details to avoid undue delay in the editorial process.

 ETHICAL CLEARANCE: This journal will publish results of research involving human subjects, patients and animals only if such a study has been conducted after appropriate clearance from the Medical Ethics Committee of the host institution. Articles published in the journal represent the opinion of the author(s) and not those of editors or publishers. Editorial board will frown at any unethical behaviour on the part to researcher or the authour.

Manuscripts will be reviewed anonymously by at least two assessors. However the final decision to accept or reject any manuscript will be made by the Editor-in-Chief. The Tropical Journal of Health Sciences accords special interest and high priority to: original work; research and training innovations and clinical observations.

 

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  1. The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  2. The submission of typed manuscript is  in Microsoft Word document file format.
  3. Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  4. The text is double-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations and figures with legends; tables with titles are placed  at the end on separate pages.
  5. The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
  6. If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.
