Harnessing the Potential of Chemistry Entrepreneurship for National Development in a Depressed Economy
Abstract
The state of the Nigerian economy has been on a declining trend. The reasons for this problem have been attributed to poverty, bad governance, corruption and increased unemployment rates. Many graduates from the Nigerian higher institutions are either unemployable or incapable of any form of self-employment as a result of the kind of training they are subjected to. Only an Education system with training of their students on entrepreneurial skills within its core discipline and the commercialisation of its innovations can be of enormous financial benefit to the economic development of any country. This study therefore examined how Chemistry entrepreneurship, as a discipline in Nigerian institutions, can be used to address the myriads of economic challenges faced by the country by ensuring that scientific research and practical work in Chemistry are deliberately transformed into marketable goods and products and the need to integrate Chemistry Entrepreneurship within the science disciplines such as Chemistry.
